The Cairn Holds Its Ground

About this wallpaper

An ancient stone cairn on a high mountain pass, rain lashing horizontally across the stacked stones, dark thunderheads boiling overhead in green-black layers, a faint path dissolving into the storm beyond the pass, water sheeting off the cairn’s capstone, the whole scene trembling with wind.

The palette stays in deep black, charcoal grey, layered so the eye moves from the darkest corners toward whatever faint light the scene allows. It reads as mountains without tipping into flat black — there is always texture in the shadows.

As a phone wallpaper it sits well behind icons and widgets — dark enough to keep text readable, detailed enough to reward a second look. Free download in full resolution.
